fashion designer in the making

my little 5 year old is already telling me she wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up. She has promised me she will design clothes for me too :)

For a fun bedroom update I popped some crewcuts pages into her frames, she already spends ages drawing outfits, it's a little extra inspiration for her! Quick + simple, and will hopefully get a great big smile when she sees it!

same furniture, new layout

The sectional that has for the last year or so sat in front of the windows has flipped back to the wall the tv used to be on..the over sized pedestal table has found it's way back to the living room as a side table, I've always loved it this way.

The gallery wall was condensed a bit with the addition of the big mirror, and the frames are waiting for me to order new prints ( one day soon! )

I've always wanted to use the console this way, more frames waiting for photo's...more rearranging pic's to come :)

making me happy right now

I've always loved the idea of a lamp in the kitchen. So with the recent changes ( which are coming! ) I added one of the former living room lights to the kitchen. I can't wait for it to get dark to put it on, the soft light at night is fantastic!

console, updated

Found these fun creamy white branches at crate & barrel yesterday with the girls, they layered into the pieces on the console nicely, they are subtle yet they grab your attention. My house is still in shambles, well not shambles, but all the new moves are being tried out for a few days before I commit to anything..so just don't get comfortable ;)

They're done! Wow it's hard to get a decent picture of a door when the sun is shining..so I apologize for the icky picture but wanted to share the outcome!

Here it is ( in all it's wrinkled glory ;) sorry.. the new black Ikea duvet cover. I have to say I love it! We also updated our window treatments in the bedroom and got the doors painted black, it's been a productive few days! I'll post pictures!

why didn't I think of this before?!

We needed a few more bins for the girls playroom, so we headed out to Ikea for a quick and easy dinner and a little shopping. As we are walking through the store we found some inexpensive black out roll blinds for our bedroom (yay!) and carried on through the bedding. Now it's been some time since I have had a cover on our duvet. I cannot find one I like! In the winter I add my swans island blanket and cable throw over top, so it's only in the summer months it's bare. Well as we were going through the bedding, as a joke I walked up to a black duvet cover and said to Kevin " ha, I bet you'd love this!" totally as a joke. And then it hit me.. it's perfect! We have cream and white and wood tones and it totally needs the black to ground it! Even better was the $39.99 King price tag! Don't worry, I'm not using the coordinating pillow cases that came with it, it's just going to be folded all crisp and grounding at the bottom of the bed.

I was flipping through pictures tonight and found this one of the girls, who, when my Gramercy monogrammed pillow arrived had to arrange it just so on the bed. So funny. They were patting it and fluffing it.. and got it just right in their eyes for this shot. Love it :)

my house, new lighting

A few new lights were installed at our house this past week. The drum pendant in the living room is new, as well as the small schoolhouse style at the bottom of the steps. Next there are 2 hall lights upstairs I'd like to update. I love the little things :)

a new look

before-

when we built our house 2.5 years ago the builder wanted to charge us $700 to upgrade our cabinet handles. ( not kidding, can you imagine?! ) needless to say we found an option that we could live with, at no extra cost. Fast forward to now and our kitchen is ready for a little update. A trip to a new Lowe's in the neighborhood,and there we have it, bright shiny new hardware ( for under $75 ). I am adoring the polished chrome finish.. even Kevin notices the difference!
