430sq ft jam packed with charm

I love small spaces. I may have said that before. A cozy room + cozy home is far more important to me than a big sprawling home that you can never keep clean. This sweet 430 sq. ft home perfectly fits the bill for a space packed with charm and character, and the 16ft ceilings and 9- 6ft windows don't hurt either -

I love the sun filled rooms, little hints of color, delicate patterns and unique pieces. What a lovely space.
( and I probably wouldn't complain about a big sprawling house either ;)

the deep south

I have a very strong connection to the south. Pretty sure in another life I lived in one of those imposing antebellum homes. Don't even ask where this comes from-
But when we lived in South Carolina, and I visited Charleston, something tugged on my heart.

I came upon this darling and interesting home that survived the fires of 1838. It is known to the original builder as the Juliana Dupre house. Well, of course it is-

It's fresh, bright, modern and traditional. It honors it's roots and at the same time it is brought in to today. The tree lined walk way, I can't even tell you how charming these are..it's a little glimpse into someones world. Ah.. I'm so having a day dream moment right now.

Thinking of Charleston South Carolina actually makes me breathless. Having only visited a couple of times, I was lucky enough to explore the historic downtown, meeting street, the battery, water front and tour a working plantation [ saw rows of slave quarters, rivers to transport cotton & there was a wedding reception being held as we left .cool]. I picked cotton, ate fresh seafood, walked through antique shops, visited cemetery's...there is so much history and well.. history there. Every where you turn you imagine what the city has faced..war,slavery,devastating hurricanes. The homes are truly spectacular in how they are built tall and narrow, with rows of windows and balcony's 3 storeys up. You imagine ghosts and politics and love stories.

Each home has a story to tell. And I would give anything to hear it.

This fall there is a home and garden tour. sigh
