anyone suffer from headaches?

I just can't stand it anymore. I have a headache almost everyday. The amount of Tylenol and Advil I go through are crazy. It's behind my eyes lately, I am going to try to get my eyes checked this week, see if anything comes of that. Any suggestions? Anything I can try? Thanks you guys, x

The second I get a bit dehydrated, I get a headache. I try to drink lots of water early in the day and that helps. Good luck - it's a really sucky problem.

I had headaches all last week...drove me insane. Someone said its the weather, but who really knows? try tylenol for migraines...apparently it works really well.

I have a friend who has been suffering with headaches and migraines for years and she told me recently that someone told her to put an ice pack on her neck at night and she said it worked. No more headaches. {She uses a "Magic Bag"...the kind you buy at Shoppers Drug Mart..and puts it in the freezer.}

i had a migraine the other day that even excedrin wouldn't touch (which usually does the trick for me). i agree w/ drinking lots of water but a co-worker gave me a ziplock bag of ice and i put it on my head and neck and it did help. and drink something w/ a little caffeine like coke or diet coke.

Definitely have your eyes checked. Speaking from experience, it won't get better until you take care of the issue. In the meantime limit any reading and 'up close' detail work. If you're doing a lot of computer work, give your eyes a rest every five minutes or so and look into the distance, etc. Good luck!

My chiropractor fixes mine, if I can't with lots of water and ice packs.

If you find out it's not your eyes-I suggest the chiropractor. If your interested let me know and I'll tell you a true story about my son and how I became a firm believer in a balance between traditional medicine and holistic. Either way, I hope they go away soon. There is nothing worse than constant pain

Sounds like it could be your sinuses. Good to get it checked out just to be sure.

No, no tricks here - sorry :-(

Hope you get it all taken care of.

I really feel for you Sarah. My fourteen year old daughter has been suffering with terrible headaches every day for the past few months, and it's proving to be really hard to control. There are lots of preventative medications available you can try, and we're working our way through them, hoping to find the right one. I recently read that botox can be helpful too, so maybe that can help. If oyou need any more info on the medications my daughter has tried, by all means drop me an email and I'll go through them with you - design@driftwoodinteriors.com.au.
Hope you find some relief soon. K xx

sarah, last year i went thru a spell (4-6 weeks) of getting severe headaches mid-day, every day. i found out they were blood pressure related. i always had low blood pressure, but for some reason (age, heredity, etc) my blood pressure had increased and stayed that way. so maybe check your blood pressure daily? a blood pressure medicine helped me. when i do still get one, i take maxalt. it's really helped. hope you can find a cause. i can certainly empathize... they're no fun. feel better. pam

Aww, I feel your pain. I get headaches every now and then too (though not everyday, poor girl) and motrin is the only thing that helps me.. tylenol and advil do nothing (though my husband swears by Tylenol migraine). A warm heating pad on my neck helps too.

I hope you find something that works for you! Feel better :)

I get headaches ALL the time and for the most of it - it's because I'm dehydrated. I just know I don't drink anywhere near enough water. Hope you get to the source of yours :)

I've had headaches frequently for as long as I can remember. The only thing that works for me is excedrin - it is my miracle drug. Tylonel and advil do nothing for me. Good luck -- it's not a fun problem

This may or may not help, but I suffered for a year from all kinds of crazy symptoms ranging from daily headaches, allergies (that I have never had before), leg cramps, to GI stuff. After TONS of tests and misdiagnoses, I finally found out I had Celiac Disease, which causes malabsorbtion and leads to all these things, including persistant headaches, over time. If you've always been healthy and this is a relatively new thing, its worth investigating with a simple blood test. I wish someone would have mentioned this option to me sooner!

Hi Sarah, Im an aussie & a paramedic friend of mine suggested you take 2 paracetomol & 1 aspirin for migraine or headaches apparently the two different chemicals work on different parts of the brain. It works a treat. Perhaps you need to see a chiropractor or Osteopath you may have a verterbrae out or some tight muscles in your neck, especially if you spend a bit of time on a computer. Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon

eek, hate that! I live off of Goody packs, so gross, but they work fast. Hard on my stomach though, but mine is crazy sensitive.

Sarah, I went through two years of that - testing, CAT scans, etc and finally found out I have blood sugar issues. If you find that you ever feel weak, shaky or disoriented ask your doctor. New diet, no headaches! Hope you figure out the source soon - x

Sorry about the headaches...I was having them earlier in the month...if it is allergy related, a Loratadine and a Sudafed(non-drowsy) is the same as a Claritin or Zyrtec, I was told by a pharmacist. Otherwise, check your eyes...it can be stress though too...:(( hope you feel better soon!

I often have a headache which will last for three days. I do so dread when it comes on. Nothing seems to get rid of it but time. You might want to check out Terri's blog Windlost, if you don't already. She sometimes writes about her chronic headaches...

best wishes, babe. I know how hard these can be.

Do you feel sensitive to light and sound? Are they migraines?

Yes, like someone else said, water totally helps. Also, you may be affected by the barometric pressure...do you get a headache when it rains?

Or it may be plain-old stress. I had to quit doing something that I love because I am just overwhelmed. Stress seems to be a big cause of my headaches.

So sorry, sweetie!

i have had chronic migraines for almost 15 years. other than prescription medication, which i use sparingly, exedrin migraine is the ONLY thing that works to relieve them...and drink a whole glass of water with it too. i've missed many a days of work because of migraines, so i feel your pain, literally! good luck!

anytime i suffer from an ailment that doesn't seem to go away on it's own i usually can attribute it to some kind of food intolerance. do you eat a lot of wheat? or gluten? dairy? try cutting out the top allergy culprits and see if your headaches go away.
this is not to say you are doomed to a life without cheese or bread forever...just for a while. could also be a yeast overgrowth.
it could also be the changes in weather.
this time of year i seem to always feel not quite right. lethargic, headache...etc...our bodies also go thruu a natural detox on their own. usually in the fall and spring.

That is the worst! I get them whenever I'm dehydrated or over-caffinated. My sister takes prescription amitriptyline and says it has done wonders for her frequent headaches. I hope you start feeling better soon!

JMW said...

Yes, I suffer from them. I've always had sinus trouble and then I had my first migraine two years ago -- it was awful. I have found that Ibuprofin helps, but you may want to visit your doctor. It could be sinus problems, allergies, blood pressure - so many reasons. Hope you find relief soon!

I swear by Exedrin Migraine (although you may need a prescription strength migraine medication), and definitely go to the doctor to rule out anything serious!!

My husband has suffered from chronic tension headaches every day for the past 8 years. The only relief he has found is through acupuncture. He refuses to take pain medication as that only relieves the symptoms and doesn't deal with the root cause. We've also discovered that it was a combination of neck injury (which was corrected through acupuncture and a structuralist chiropractor) and a sensitivity to light due to dry eyes and working long days on the computer. Find a good acupuncturist though, it can make all the difference.

Oh darling I can relate. Since I entered the 2nd trimester I have had one every day. They are usually migraines resulting from tension in my upper back and neck muscles. It moves up my head to my forhead and behind my eyes. A cold cloth on my forehead and hiding in a dark room for an hour helps. Tylenol does nothing!

I have been going to accupuncture and massage therapy for 3 weeks now. My symptoms are improving every day. I went 4 whole days last week without a headache. It was amazing!! It's day two of this week. Try it and let me know your thoughts.

I have a chiropractor who uses BBT, or Brain Based Therapy on me to help with my herniated disks, ect. He has had luck helping people with chronic head pains to fibromialgia to you name it. I would look into that if I were you. It involves using oxygen and getting adjustments. Also, have you had a food allergy test? I am so sorry for your chronic head aches, I hope you feel better soon.

maybe you need to try a chiropractor. my brother-in-law is one and treats many people for headaches/migranes.

I feel your pain and I'm sorry you have this struggle. I've fought chronic headache/migraine for about 7 years and found the following to be the overall best help:
1/ consistent sleep pattern(I know not easy)
2/ accupuncture
3/ yoga (so much is caused by tense neck muscles)
4/ hydration (water)
5/ breathing/relaxing techniques (de-stress as much as possible).

I wish you the best of luck finding the write fixes for you (everyone is unique) but clearly you are not alone!

I feel your pain! I suffer from Migraines as well- have for 10 years. There are many many causes- for me its Gluten, too much sugar, lack of protein, dehydration, and change is weather (or barametirc pressure). Medicine like tylenol or advil is really easy to build up a tolerance to (and in my opinion its pretty weak, does nothing for my headaches). If you don't want to go the prescription route just yet try Excendrine Migraine... works really well. And if THAT doesnt work, I take Naproxen- its prescription but the BEST! And drink lots of water!!

I have (had) been suffering from terrible headaches for YEARS until I went off the pill, and when I started using the Netti Pot (sinus rinse). Mine were mostly hormonal and sinus related. IT seems to be the perfect solution, as I have not had a migraine in over a year. I would definitely get your eyes checked, since if you are straining them that can cause headaches. Also, for maintaining them, I use an ice pack, it is a life saver!!

I've had headaches my whole life and recently started going to a chiropractor on a regular basis and it has helped tremendously!!

I feel your pain. I go to Chiropractor to be adjust which REALLY helps. Also staying hydrated is very important too.

wow - welcome to my world! I've had headaches since I was 17 and I've tried everything. Those freezer packs from Shoppers do help either on your neck or on your forehead just to ease it a bit. In terms of over the counter pain relief, I make a special trip to the US for Exedrin Migraine - it has aspirin with caffeine and acetaminophen and the formulation can't be found here in Canada - it's the only thing that works for me (other than the prescription migraine stuff). sometimes too much time on the computer brings them on, as does not eating regularly. hope you start to feel better xx

I used to suffer from migraines regularly and now thankfully very, very rarely. For me the headache is always behind one eye and all the way to the back of my head. Other migraine symptoms are sensitivity to light and often nausea. The only thing that would really work was a prescription medication "cocktail" that my doctor prescribed. Nowadays, when I feel a headache coming on I instantly take two Motrin. Don't wait for it to worsen. Also, caffeine can often help.

Good luck with diagnosing yours. I hope you feel better soon. These can be so dibilitating.

I can't relate but my sister gets migranes and has started to see a chiropractor and gets regular massages...once a week if she is stressed out. The chiro says she holds all her tension in her neck and that causes the headaches....since she has been going she hasn't had any!!
Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

I too suffered from constant headaches in years past, and was eating tons of tylenol and advil with no improvement. I went through a array of tests including having my eyes checked and a CAT Scan of my head which were all normal....turns out, that it was Celiac, and after just a week on a gluten free diet, the headaches were gone! Now I only get the occasional headache from tension etc. With Lauren's history, it may be worthwhile running past your doc...hope you feel better soon my dear! xx.

So sorry you are suffering from these nasty headaches.
Headaches were the clue that let me know I needed glasses. Thankfully there are some great looking glasses around these days.
I also get bad headaches when dehydrated.
You certainly are not alone on this one!

I constantly have headaches. It's really unusual for me to wake up without a headache, because my neck curves the wrong way from a whiplash accident when I was younger. I see the chiro once a week to try and slowly curve it back the other way.

Some other things that helped were reading glasses and breast reduction (sometimes big isn't good, ha!). Dehydration and not eatin regularly is another big one for me too.

Maybe a trip to the doctor or chiropractor would be good? I don't recommend cutting out food groups unless it's confirmed that you're allergic, because you can give yourself an intolerance by not eating any type of food for a long period of time ... plus, I have a bunch of food allergies and I would not wish it on anyone!

I hope you can get some relief soon.

I suffered from migraines, and no Dr. could figure out why..they say it's "environmental triggers" BUT, I stopped taking the birth control pill (yaz) last November, and I haven't had a migraine since!!

I suffer from migraines as does my mum. Our doctor recently told my mum to go and get her heart checked because there is a link between migraines and having a hole in the heart! Sure enough mum does have a hole in her heart and is soon to get it patched up! Note, hole in the heart leads to strokes too. I need to get mine checked soon too.

I know a big gap between having a headache and taking a tablet to having a migraine to having a hole in the heart. Putting it out there becuase you just never know....

I feel your pain and hope you feel better soon x
