it's in the mix

If I stay true to what I love, and all the time I feel more and more comfortable and confident in doing so ( it takes time doesn't it?! ) I love the mix of warm wood in a space. Whether old or new, an inexpensive find, or full of family history, mixed with a creamy white and black, I just love it-

Helen Bertelson's dining and bedroom via style at home and a kitchen that has me weak in the knees every time I look at it-

and a classic, that I'm sure we all fell for when it was originally featured in Canadian House and Home, a kitchen by Tommy Smythe.. the floors, lighting, table, cabinets.. it's an elegance that's timeless-

What have you discovered you love in a space?

I, too, love wood. I'm just drawn to it. Usually the more worn and weathered the greater the pull. I wonder why that is? My acupuncturist was telling me something about it when I mentioned it to her, but I forget what she said. Will have to ask again...

ps-just came back from Calgary. Have you been in Holt lately?? ohemgeefabulosity.

xoxo,
Carrie

Love the pics...I love the kitty in the first picture. I have found I am obsessed with pillows and curtains - fabrics of any kind. But pillows are really something I have been going out of my way to look at. Have a great weekend!

Look warm and cool tones in a room. Real wood is rather lovely.

Goodness I love the wood islands! I get tired of seeing painted furniture all the time. Yes, sometimes it's necessary but not every piece!

I love old, wormy wood with a beautiful finish like Helen Bertelson's dining room table! :)

On a related note, I was visiting my grandfather, who used to own antique shops, last weekend and he showed me a beautiful table he had refinished with French Polish he made out of olive oil and something else. It had just a soft gleam to it and I can't wait to try it- does anyone know how to make the concoction??

That bed in the first photo is beautiful! And I love that kitchen toward the end - the combination of the black and white is perfect.

I saw that first home in the recent Style at Home and am in LOVE. To me it is just the perfect blend of modern and antiques... so lovely.

Thanks so much for your sweet comment. I love meeting my fellow Canadians too! Go Canada!

Have a great weekend, Sarah!

In complete agreement here. I love the look of wood in a space...raw wood or stained. So many people want to paint everything all the time and the warmth of the wood tones are so comforting and cozy.

So love the carriage style lantern & the dark (slate?) floors & the pattern that the tiles were laid. Black framed windows gorgeous too.
It's likely a new space that speaks as though it has a history. Great vibe!
