I am absolutely OBSESSED with pillows and lighting right now. The pillows started with the purchase of the beige+white striped one below. Made by Carolyn at CC Deux Vie..it's incredible.

It would also explain why I stared at these two pillows everyday, until I bought them yesterday. The fabric is Kerry Linen Stripe by Schumacher, and I'm seriously in love. One will be added to the sofa and one to my chair. I love the hint of goldy beige it's going to bring.

and these by CWD textiles below are on their way, 3 for the euro pillows on my bed. SO excited for these new pillows.. they're really going to make the space!

Don't you? I was ecstatic to pick up this Crate & Barrel secretary which in Canadian stores was close to $1900 for less than $700. Yup.. it's incredible and there is not one thing wrong with it..oh, and it's leather!

clearly I should have cleaned the fingerprints off the chair and moved the cords, but I'm just keeping it real today ha ha. This is my work space and night stand. It sits beside the windows in my quiet bedroom and I love it :)

it's been a while since a DIY

lamps that have been in our bedroom for three years...

are getting a DIY for the girls rooms..

I let them pick out the paint ( imagine how hard that was ;) )

and I sprayed just the bottom rim and finial..

they add a bit of fun for the girls rooms

the finials look like gumdrops-

blue for Lauren and purple for Calleigh-

and since I gave them my lamps, I thought I'd treat myself to a new lamp for the console-

Jen + Ryan just moved into a new home. They are busy working 7 days a week with a new business and really want a place to relax at the end of the day ( a space that isn't for the kids ;) ) They wanted to work with the taupe paint, grey carpet and small ikea dresser they already had, so I came up with a mauve / brown / grey scheme for them. It is pure luxury, a little bit of glam, and a space they will both love going to at the end of a long day.

change is good [ new lighting ]

I have loved having my school house pendants over our kitchen island. But you know how sometimes a change will update the space? Here's what happened...Remember the $10 lights I updated and replaced those weird wavy lights with? My ultimate plan was to have them switched out to potlights, which I can now excitedly say is happening this month. Our main floor isn't very big, and all of a sudden I find all I see is lights, which is bugging me. SO, out go the pendants, and more potlights in their place.

I'm going to add one show stopper over the kitchen sink though... hello gorgeous

Hicks pendant in polished nickel is so me. Pleased to say even the hubs is on board.

( crazy how much changes.. looking at the kitchen in the lighting link, we now have new bamboo blinds in the window, and the wall is black! The hicks light is going to pop! )

I hope you all had and are still having a wonderful holiday season. It always feels like Christmas to me when the fire is lit at my parents house..

I just love ( and so did my mom ) this sweet little lace bowl from Anthro-

My mom spoiled me with a luxurious cashmere pillow.. it's heaven-

8 years ago these pink ornaments were our wedding favor, I love that my mom still has hers on her tree! ( Even way back them I had to have my hint of pink! )

I just love my business cards made by lemon & lavender, and in my ikat bowl they're the perfect pair-

I fell in love and obsessively bought a whack of these gorgeously tinted mercury glass votive holders from Indigo. I kid you not they cost about $20 all together. I had to stop myself from buying every one they had. ha! I LOVE them scattered in the center of the dining table.

My new love.. double arm lamp. Sigh, it makes me smile :)

Ah, my sweet husband. A gorgeous new Michael Kors watch ( it's so classic, but oversized ) and the Tiffany bracelet I've been eyeing..

We're spending New Years Eve with some lovely friends, I can't wait. It will be a busy house with all 6 of our combined kiddo's! Happy New Year, here's to a fabulous new year. xoxo Sarah

Each holiday season I find a signature wrap..usually it's an inexpensive but great simple pattern from Ikea. This year I wanted to make our own..so out came the paints and the bulk rolls of brown kraft paper. ( Warning.. Grams, yours is shown, secrets out ; )

all of a sudden my completely crisp classic look has taken a big ol detour and has been taken over by soft over sized cardigans, the coziest scarves, time worn denim shirts, and v neck tee's long enough to cover my bum when I wear them with leggings. I have fallen 100% in love with, comfort. Now don't get me wrong, I haven't gone to complete slobdome.. I still mix my comfort with classics like below. ( But see.. that tank would so be covering my bum... and the leggings black...; )

I was inspired this year once again by fresh cut boughs, greenery, and my holiday favorite- paper whites. The overall look is really quite minimal and fresh..

it's natural and has lots of layers..

the girls and I found the sweetest tree to sit atop the black pedestal table. It's soft and a little quirky. A few mercury glass ornaments adorn it.

A glimpse at the outdoors, more paper white bulbs and hints of gold and silver-

in the kitchen a silver tray with more bulbs, a little tree and more mercury glass.

The girls have mini tree's in their rooms chalk full of their collected ornaments..I love that they love our simple little traditions :) x

I have a mini bathroom makeover planned. Our master en suite is sooo boring. On a trip to Restoration Hardware yesterday I spied this shower curtain and I can't stop thinking about it. The color is right on to compliment the flooring, and if we take out the boring tile around the vanity/ shower and replace it with marble.. I'm thinking it will have a new lease on life! All for a few hundred dollars.. my kind of face lift!

smashbox cosmetics.. I've just recently bought the lip enhancing gloss and soft lights powder...they are so jam packed with pigment and color that one little swipe of the blush brush in the powder has intense color on your cheeks..no more applying 5 coats to get some color! Brilliant!

I'm thrilled today to have Annette Tatum, author of The Well Dressed Home, here to give us some great insight to the connection between fashion and interiors! Be sure to check out her fabulous lookbook!

The connection between the fashion world and the world of interior design is more closely related than ever before. Just as you design your wardrobe, your style choices in clothing often mirror the same style you choose for your home.

Sometimes it is easier to find inspiration in your own closet than it is from home decor pages in magazines. Everyday I design the outfit I am going to wear so it only makes sense that some of the inspiration for my own home might be found deep in my own closet. A favorite blue t-shirt once was the perfect soothing wall color for my guest room. I took it to my local paint store and asked them to match the color. It was so easy! Other times the latest runway fashions prove to have just the right combination of style and fantasy that make me want to take a risk and try something new. Either way I find fashion and home are more related than ever before. Fabrics that used to be just reserved for fashion are now finding their way onto home decor design boards. Perfect classic and hounds tooth checks that make up the time-honored fabrics of Ralph Lauren fashion also make great patterns and fabrics for a den or library.

The most obvious place to look for fashion inspiration is with color. Fashion is often more bold and daring—hot pinks mixed with turquoise and greens might be this summer’s hottest fashion statement in all the magazines. Some filtered down version usually makes its way into the design scene. Maybe not as colorful or as over the top, but served up in wonderful ways that best suite home decor. One always has to remember that you can change your outfit in a day... your home is not so easy. More thought has to go into the design choices for our homes because we will "wear" the outfit we choose for our home every day; adding and subtracting all the different layers that make up our home style. Who lives there, their lifestyle and the likes and dislikes of a group dynamic? A home, like a runway, wears many collections. Usually there is a designer who offers up different translations of his or her particular style. You get to decide which outfit is best for you within that collection. Like your personal wardrobe, different days call for different ensembles. To translate how this might work for your home think of your "night out for dinner" outfit as the equivalent to your living room or more formal room in your home. It usually adds up that whatever you are comfortable wearing is usually closely related to how formal your interior might be, over the top or sophisticated understatement. Even if it is not a literal translation, finding ideas, color ways, patterns and trends within your wardrobe is a perfect starting point for finding a path to your personal home decor.

Pink, especially soft pink is something I love to wear. I’m not really comfortable in the brighter side of pink. I use pink as a neutral and love it in every room and have it throughout my closet. I take inspiration from a faded prom dress or a small package. Pink is sweet and sophisticated in pale tones. Mixed with warm beige tones makes it perfect for the bedroom.

My guest room is off the garden and often the place where all my favorite visitors stay when on vacation. I wanted this space to feel serene and happy, like a mini get-a-way for the traveler. So I chose blue in a very island, watery shade and mixed in some vintage finds to make the room feel like it had been there all along. Inspiration of crisp and clean came from a vintage summer dress I had in my closet. Just like the guest room I don't always wear the summer dress but I loved what it represented. Summer days, informal dinners and lots of watery blues.

I love any kind of Boho reference and as long as it is outdoors it feels even better. Like a caravan of color from a favorite embroidered blouse, lounging outside on a daybed full of bright inspiration makes this corner hideaway the perfect place to picnic.
I collect lots of vintage jewelry, not too fancy, just things I like. Some I have, just because and I often don't end up wearing them. I either loved the color or the way the materials were mixed together. Whatever the reason, they are often the source of inspiration in my own home. Mixing and matching is what a layered home is all about. My home has been assembled over time and I love it when I am able mix my favorite vintage beaded sweater with some other assorted elements from my closet. I have rooms in my house that do the same. Full of bits of this and that, colors that blend and oppose and patterns that when layered together create a statement all their own. Such is the eclectic world of fashion and home decor.

There are some rooms in my house whose design is by accident. The process can happen backwards for me. I gathered all the furniture and accessories for a room only to find that they all remind me of a favorite blouse detail. I love it when that happens. All of my favorite and familiar colors come together in unison. Pale creams, turqs and pinks mixed in with subtle hints of vintage gold and silver. Just like a fashion choice, it all reflects my own personal style. To me that is what design is all about. How we design our life has to reflect our own unique personalities both in our every day fashion choices and in our home.

I had the best time doing a little online shopping at West Elm this afternoon..they have some fabulous prices on really great pieces! I found small accessories that I just loved, that will fit so well into my decor. So many of their pieces have such a wonderful organic feel. Small bath trays from $6, gorgeous throws on sale, hand towels and this pendant that I have been coveting for so long, I finally figured out where to put it in my house, and it's not the kitchen!

my little 5 year old is already telling me she wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up. She has promised me she will design clothes for me too :)

For a fun bedroom update I popped some crewcuts pages into her frames, she already spends ages drawing outfits, it's a little extra inspiration for her! Quick + simple, and will hopefully get a great big smile when she sees it!
