How to cozy up a queen size bed ( for a 4 year old )

Both of our girls have big beds. Not because we wanted them to have gargantuan beds for their size. They out grew their cribs, and as we transitioned to our king, we had spare beds ( and honestly with little little kids, not too many overnight guests ;)

I want both my kids to be cozy in their rooms. I have always been a firm believer in calm spaces for bedtime. I like a great comfortable bed to go to sleep on, of course a child will too! But I found trying to make a big bed suitable for a little one takes some layers.. to shrink it.. here's Calleighs start to finish-
I don't have a spec of bedding in this house that is a set, other than plain sheets. So our rooms evolve and switch around. Calleigh has a plain white fitted sheet, I don't use a flat sheet for her.. too much to get tangled. I start by folding a white blanket near the bottom and tuck it in-

then a soft pink blanket folded and set on top-

add a fluffy down alternative duvet ( I can't risk feathers with Laurens asthma! ) I fold it and place it in the middle of the bed. This shrinks it down-

2 pillows in quilted shams

another texture, velvet and linen pillow

a few tiny little pillows that get some serious playtime ( ! with barbies, dolls... )

and there it is, a cosy small place for kids-

Happy weekend! xx

how far would you go?

craving a girly space? There are alot of ways to add a bit of feminine into a room. Some are subtle, others not.

Moroccan lighting, ornate headboard, and a glittering bust. oh, and a bit of fur..

a kitchen that is beyond perfection-

french luxury in the bath-

poufs, fresh cut flowers, a daring blue, and the most feminine lines-

Have you injected any girly into your space? I'd love to know where..

make it your own, the little black cardi

I'm guessing there are alot of us who have a little black cardi. Anyone looking for fresh ideas on what to wear with it? I would LOVE to know how you wear yours! Whether it's over a white tee, or belted with leopard.. how would you wear a little black cardigan?

keeping warm

YUP, it's that time of year here in Alberta. The flurries are starting and we are dropping to negative temperatures in the evenings, BRRRR. I won't complain.. I love the cosy, wrap up, layer up clothes ( for a few months anyway ..not 3/4 of the year we usually have .. anyway.. ) These pieces struck me -

a capelet from lands end canvas

my favorite, wool jackets belted with a brown leather belt. I added this style ( not this exact one, but a black jacket and wider belt ) to my wardrobe, and this will be my 3rd winter wearing it. I also love my high necked black wool jacket with my over the shoulder Louis Vuitton bag, similar to this one, mines a few years old, 3 actually, it was Kevin christmas gift to me after L was born :). sorry rambling. Something about the black / brown mix -

The lovely Catherine at Rikshaw Design has these llbean boots stuck in my head, aren't they awesome? Thanks alot C ;)

three things, rue rooms

So serene. I love the crispness.. it's soft, yet crisp and has such subtle color. MMM, such a favorite-

The mirror ( I WANT ) the windows ( come on, they're FABULOUS! ) with a calm and quiet dose of romance-

The sofa I dream about, I adore pedestals as side tables and the lamps, oh my-

That table is looking pretty unique too..

one thing leads to another

It started when I spotted this great piece in House Beautiful by Lindsey Bond. I thought maybe I could reproduce it ( here. )

I was ecstatic to see that my very awesome friend Paula from Two Ellie did! How fabulous does it look in her dining space? Paula.. you rock!

Ok, so now that I am loving that painting even more... last week Shannon from Pink Wallpaper posted this image, with the swirly circles.. again, love it!

and THEN.. Sue from The Zhush's amazingly gorgeous living room reno is revealed.. notice the art..

I have spent alot of time admiring art this week.. looks like I might need to get out that old paint brush..
Thanks ladies for all your inspiration!

no more double doubles for me

I adore my Tim's double double.. but since finding out last month that I am lactose intolerant ( so out of the blue at 33! ) I can no longer have them. I inquired with the staff of my local shop, and they don't stock any milk alternatives, no soy, no lactaid. I was so disappointed that I headed right over to the Tim Horton's website and gave them a little suggestion. ( so unlike me ) I know I'm not the only one who would like to enjoy their coffee without bringing a sippy cup of lactaid with them from home :) I don't think it's too much to ask, do you?
And we do visit starbucks more now... I just love Tims!

weekend wishes

three things, staying true to your style

Suzanne Dimma, Editor in chief of a Canadian favorite, Canadian House & Home has a truly lovely home.. imagine how hard it is to stick to your style footprint with all the inspiration around her!

her back entry, I love the draped table

the island, carpet and fancy lighting really make the space come into it's own..

a quiet little spot to post your inspiration, love this idea, it's subtle-

you can see the whole tour of her home here, and in the new issue of CH&H you'll see her home decorated for the holidays.
